YOGA AND SURF CAMP IN SRI LANKA | IF YOU LOOK DOWN YOU GO DOWN

24H IN COLOMBO

Colombo is one of those chaotic asian cities, it’s like hundred slaps on your face, the noises, the smells, the chaos, everything is overwhelming, thats’s why I loved it so much. I loved the bright colors of the houses, the kindness of the people, the quietness of the temples, the richness of the markets. I’m glad I had the chance to visit it.

Pettah market was my favorite, lots of fresh food, colors, friendly people, I got the best papaya ever there.

I visited the Jami Alfar Mosque and the Gangaramaya temple, both very beautiful.

Last but not least don’t miss a walk at sunset at the Galle face beach and multiple tuk tuk rides.

I stayed in a cute and simple b&b, called Black cat, but I booked through Airbnb, really enjoyed my stay there.

best papaya I got at the market

Vasantha Bhavan for delicious vegetarian Indian food, next door there’s the non vegetarian version. I went there twice, once I got a masala dosa and the next time a thali. This is the address: 19/1 Horton Place, Colombo 00700, Sri Lanka.

TALALLA YOGA AND SURF CAMP

The real reason I was in Sri Lanka was to meet my dear friend Mirha and to learn how to surf, she went to Talalla once and loved it, so we decided to go there together; she lives in Singapore, so far away from me 🙁 that’s why we try to see each other  at least once a year somewhere in the world.
Mirha is already a good surfer, I was a complete beginner, never touched a surf board in my life before, but it was LOTS of fun and put me out of my comfort zone challenging myself and my fears.

Days at Tallalla were packed with activities, basically there was yoga at sunrise, breakfast, surf lessons and more yoga.  I was in level 1 with other amazing girls, Bianca, Sam, Abby and Maria who made the time even more fun. We were all going though the same struggles, popping up, looking up and so on, but we all learnt something.
I was excited and scared at the same time to be out in the ocean but it was amazing seeing little improvements day by day, one week was not enough tho, I can not wait to practice more and go back to Sri Lanka, it’s a very special country, and Talalla the best place where to learn how to surf.

If you are interest you can find here all the info Talalla retreat , I couldn’t recommend  this experience more.

Take a look at the beauty of this place and me attempting to stand on a surf board. haha

GALLE

Galle is a very cute city, but I have mixed feelings about it. I fund it too touristic for my taste, I loved the architecture, the people of course, the vibe but for me it was disappointing to see hipster cafes and restaurants where only tourist would go, I don’t fancy having an avocado toast in Sri Lanka surrounded by other tourists,  I want to melt with the locals, eat what they eat, I want to experience what is unfamiliar to me, but other than that I would pay a visit to Galle anyway, it’s a very pretty city. Of course in my photos you wont see those cafes but only what I found real and authentic.

Mama’s Galle fort roof cafe, it’s  a cute rooftop restaurant, I ordered the  vegetarian curry menu, you get rice with different dishes such as sour mango, dhal, okra, beetroot, jackfruit, papadom and caramelized pumpkin. yummmy! Address N76 Laynbaan street, Galle fort
